"The direction in which education starts
a man will determine his future life."
-Plato

As much as I'd like to
believe Plato, I think that a man's future life is determined by his entire educational career, which includes
life after a formal education. My college education was completed exclusively at the
University of Southern California. I earned a Bachelor of Science
degree in Computer Engineering and Computer Science in May 2002 and a Master of Science degree in
Computer Science in December 2002.
Under the advisement of
Professor Ellis Horowitz,
I earned a
Ph.D. in Computer Science in May 2007, with
Professor Ming-Deh Huang and
Professor Petros Ioannou comprising my
defense committee. The title of my dissertation was "Algorithms and Data
Structures for the Real-Time Processing of Traffic Data". Soon thereafter, I accepted the position of
Assistant Professor of Computer Systems Engineering at the
University of Alaska, Anchorage. More information about my life at UAA
can be found on my
UAA page.
Throughout my 9 years at USC, I learned that once a Trojan, one will always bleed cardinal and gold. That
means that I will always adhere to the five traits that embody every Trojan, as inscribed on
Tommy Trojan: faithful, scholarly, skillful,
courageous, ambitious.
